2025-10-04 Switched to Kobo Ereader

I have just bought a Kobo Colour Libra ereader. I have always used Kindle before and their kit is absolutely fine but once you go down the Kindle route it is really very difficult to move away from Kindle as all the books you buy are locked to Kindle readers through DRM.

I totally get why DRM is used to stop people sharing books they purchase, although in the real world many of us get our paper books from those given to Charity shops!

However I do believe that books you purchase should be readable on any ereader that you use no matter where you get your ebooks from but Amazon have done everything they can to prevent this.

I have now happily moved to my Kobo and my library is now there, I have also added some pdf's as well as other resources that I want to have on my ereader. I have connected it to my local Libby and Borrowbox library so that I can borrow books (Borrowbox requires an interim step but still easy)

The Kobo is currently far more flexible than its Kindle equivalent and is easier to use for example with page turn buttons as well as touch screen, you choose!

I am sure in the competitive world Kindle will produce a goto model in the future, but I will not switch back unless I know I can move my legally purchased books to an ereader of my choice!
